Daniela Comani graduated in 1988 from the Academy of Fine Arts in Bologna and received her MFA from the University of Fine Arts in Berlin in 1993.

The multimedia work of Daniela Comani engages in a dialogue about history, gender, language, and identity. Using photography, text, and installation, she works with both manipulated and appropriated media images and the performance of self, as in the work “It Was Me. Diary 1900–1999“, where she rewrote the history of the 20th century in female first person, or the series “New Publications Edited by Daniela Comani“, where she manipulated book titles of classic novels, changing the gender of the protagonist.

Using “gendering” as an artistic strategy, Comani challenges stereotypes, history, identity, and the interpretation of language.

Her works are frequently published as artist books, and function as art pieces that she conceives and designs, working with Edition Patrick Frey, Corraini, Archive Books, Humboldt Books, Danilo Montanari, among others.

Comani’s work has been shown internationally, recently: BIENALSUR, Real Fictions, Centro Cultural Kirchner, Buenos Aires (2023). Solo exhibitions include the current site-specific installation Orlando's Library at Palazzo Ducale, Genoa (2024), Planet Earth: 21st Century, Museum Folkwang, Essen (2023), YOU ARE MINE, Galleria Nazionale d’Arte Moderna e Contemporanea, Rome (2022).
