Haritorn Akarapat is an independent artist based in Chiang Mai. A graduate of Silapakorn University in Bangkok, he is widely recognized for his mastery of several media, most prominently bronze sculpture, but also drawing and painting. He uses shapes and mediums with an incomparable sense of freedom, formulating representation of mythologies that are both personal and rooted in Buddhist traditions. Akarapat developed over the past thirty years a strong and distinctive identity, exploring new ways to approach semi-figurative art with great eloquence, humor and boldness. Akarapat’s oeuvre has to be experienced rather than solely intellectually understood. His massive humanoid shaped sculptures, often in florescent or iridescent hues and in hoards, destabilize the spectator, and strike his emotions with no filter.

Akarapat has received several prestigious awards. 7^th Henry Moore Grand prize (Hakone-Utsukushi-Ga-Hara Open Air Museum, Japan, 1991) He has been commissioned public high scale monuments, Buddha Figure (Wat Dhammamongkol, Bangkok, 2009), Mermaid and infant (commissioned by PTT group for the Island of Koh Samed, Thailand, 2014) and has held very noticeable solo exhibitions, Sajja-Patima (100 Tonson Gallery, Bangkok, 2004), Lapse of Memory (Tang Contemporary Art, Bangkok, 2009).
