Jessica Segall is a multidisciplinary artist based between Brooklyn, NY and Berlin. Hostile and threatened landscapes are the sites for her work. From swimming with alligators in (un)common intimacy to bathing in crude oil in Human Energy, she plays with both the risk of engaging with the environment and the vulnerability of the environment itself. In this work, Jessica is examining a queer ecology, while exploring crossovers between endurance performance and climate change. Jessica’s work is built on a foundation of research that often includes cross-disciplinary collaboration and collaboration with scientists, activists, plants and animals. She exhibits her work internationally, including Say When (COP 26, 2022) Other Worldy (Fries Museum, 2020), Tiger Lives (The Coreana Museum of Art, 2020) the Jewish New Media Festival (The National Museum of Jewish American History 2019) and the Havana Bienal (2009). Jessica is a 2023 Guggenheim Fellow and received grants including The Pollock Krasner Foundation, New York Foundation for the Arts, New York State Council on the Arts and Art Matters. She received her MFA from Columbia University and her BA from Bard College.
