Amanda Heng is a full-time Independent art practitioner. She began her practice in the 80s, an epochal moment in Singapore art history that saw the beginnings of contemporary art, where she worked in performance, installation, photography, video and other multi-disciplinary projects. Her work deals with clashing of eastern and western values, traditions and identity politics in the context of a multi- cultural and fast-changing society of Singapore. Often works collaboratively with people of different cultural backgrounds and from within and outside art circles, Amanda has expanded her studies on history, memory, communication and human relationships in urban condition, globalisation, and the information and digital age. Amanda has exhibited in international major galleries, Triennials, festivals and artist-run projects in countries such as Australia, Germany, Spain, UK, Indonesia, Philippines, Thailand, Vietnam, Myanmar, Sri Lanka, Austria, Poland, Canada, Sweden, USA, New Zealand, South Korea, Taiwan, China. She also curates and organises exhibitions, art events and forums, and has lectured at Nanyang Technological University (NTU), the National Institute of Education (NIE) and LaSalle College of the Arts. Amanda is one of the founding members of the Singapore art collectives, The Artists Village, and WITAS (Women in the Arts, Singapore). Amanda received the prestigious Cultural Medallion Award in Singapore in 2010. In 2019, She won the 12th Benesse Art Award from Japan in 2019.
